A specialist condom shop and a hidden nightclub: these and two other stories have sparked the most interest in 2018.
1st place – Condomeria
Heinze Baumann and Erika Knoll’s team has been advising customers in Zurich's old town since the early nineties. The specialist condom and sex toy shop Condomeria measures just 24 square metres – but it’s the first port of call for sexual education and information in Zurich.
2nd place – Die Schneiderei
Schneiderei hasn’t been a secret address for some time now. Even so, it has managed to retain the speakeasy charm that is typical of hidden venues in cities like New York and Berlin: ideally underground, exclusive and unrecognisable from the outside. To get to a speakeasy, patrons often have to pass through a private room, a Chinese restaurant or – in this case – a kebab shop.
3rd place – Hafenkneipe
Roger Hafner, who trained as a chemistry lab technician, used to take temporary jobs in bars to finance his travels. Then he realised that he could just run one himself instead. More than 10 years ago, he seized the opportunity and opened the Hafenkneipe, located behind the main station, with five friends.
4th place – Haar-Schopf
Once you’ve had your hair cut by Heinz Hofer, you’ll never go anywhere else. Haar-Schopf on the Neumarkt has been the first port of call for classic men's haircuts since 1970.
