Burgers, tacos and the best pizza chef
Street food festivals are booming. Over the next few weeks, there are dozens of events to lure foodies out into the fresh air. From fast food to Mexican specialities, here are some of the early summer highlights.
Street Food Festival
Until 16 June, Stadionbrache Hardturm
On their website, the organisers suggest that you ‘eat your way around it’. You have a whole month to sample everything that’s on offer. The stalls change every week, but international street food classics like burgers, fish & chips and dumplings are always available.
Italian Food Festival
21-23 June, Stadionbrache Hardturm
Pizza, pasta and tiramisu – this food festival will also be held at Stadionbrache Hardturm, but this time it has an Italian flavour. It will also feature the first edition of the Pizzaiolo Swiss Cup, where pizza chefs can compete in three categories, including ‘Pizza Classica’.
Día de los Tacos
15 and 16 June, GZ Buchegg, Bucheggstr. 93, 8057 Zurich
Well, that’s good! The organiser’s Facebook page states: ‘The event is about Mexico, but it’s not just for Mexicans.’ Everyone is welcome to sample the delicious food on offer from more than 15 stalls at Switzerland’s first taco festival. And once you’ve eaten your fill you can visit an exhibition or head for the kids’ play area.
Utoquai Food Festival
5–7 July, Utoquai
Zürifäscht – Zurich’s summer festival – is also a time of sizzling, grilling and frying, with food stalls all over the city. But for three days, foodies make a beeline for the hip food trucks on Utoquai.
Street Food Park
5–7 July, Bürkliplatz
The Street Food Park Festival takes place in towns and villages all over the canton of Zurich. During Zürifäscht, the trucks spend three days on Bürkliplatz in the city centre to ensure that festivalgoers never go hungry.
