These are the 10 favourite places of the hellozurich community
Eigenwillie drinks, plant-based fast food and casual bars: In 2021, we have again presented a favourite place every week. These 10 spots are the most popular with our readers.
1st place - Talacker
Urs Mühlherr, Chris Schaad and Maja Kunzelmann have been running Talacker since 2004. It has become one of the most popular restaurants in district 1, partly because of its classic noodle soups and unique drink creations.
2nd place - Die Schneiderei
Schneiderei hasn’t been a secret address for some time now. Even so, it has managed to retain the speakeasy charm that is typical of hidden venues in cities like New York and Berlin: ideally underground, exclusive and unrecognisable from the outside. To get to a speakeasy, patrons often have to pass through a private room, a Chinese restaurant or – in this case – a kebab shop.

3rd place - Powder Room
As a free spirit, Sandra Augsburger refuses to confine herself to just one decade. In her Powder Room boutique, she sells clothing in styles from the 1920s through to the 1970s, and makes sure she always has something new for her customers to try on.
4th place - Pflanzerei
Gardener Carla Boschung has worked all over the world, but today she ensures that the people of Zurich have no shortage of greenery. Her shop on Josefstrasse is brimming with plants to suit every home and every balcony.
5th place - Veganitas
Childhood friends Mirko Lupatini and Giuseppe Moranda actually studied at the ETH, far removed from the restaurant trade. But a documentary changed their plans. The pair from Ticino decided there was a need for vegan fast food. They started from scratch – and now own a food truck.
6th place - Gleis
Couple Julia Vögeli and Lou Lipp wanted to create a place in Zurich that’s a cultural meeting place and a bar in one. Not too expensive and accessible for people who also want to put on an impromptu event. The pair brought this concept to life at Gleis – all while the building hadn’t even been built yet. The mix of stage and bar is now located right by the train tracks as part of the three building cooperative structures on Zollstrasse.
7th place - Enzian Bäckerei
Enzian vegan bakery is located behind Oerlikon station. Daniela Treichler and her committed team work hard to come up with new recipes. And it’s not only Zurich’s vegans who love them.
8th place - Chaima Thai Take Away
Chaima in Wipkingen has a reputation for being the healthiest Thai take-away spot in Zurich: owner Thitikarn Chaima always prepares her dishes from fresh using ingredients sourced almost exclusively from Switzerland and with no additives.

Danny Schächter worked in commodity trading for thirty years. But in the end he grew weary of the constant business travel – and opened the Ma’adan Bakery instead. It is the only Jewish bakery in the whole of Zurich.
10th place - Unmeat
They were looking for high-quality fast food with a twist. So Theo Favetto and Raphael Neuburger started selling their own burgers, firstly in food trucks at festivals, and now at a bricks-and-mortar restaurant in district 4. No animals are harmed in the making of their food.
